About Me
Helene Dubreuil – Production designer, movies, stage, interior and commercial.
Originally from France and residing in Paris, Helene grew up on the African West Coast, in Cameroon and the Ivory Coast respectively.
After studying at the Academie Charpentier in Paris (Preparation to National Art School), Helene was admitted to the ENSAAMA (National Superior School of Applied Arts and Art Professions) of Paris. Helene graduated with a master in visual expression.
Helene started as an assistant to the artistic director, in advertising, with CLM BBDO (French branch of the world renown BBDO agency based in New York) as well as DDB Needham (part of the Omnicom Group).
For 4 years, Helene has worked an assistant decorator for the French national TV before joining, in 1993, the film of Pascale Ferrant, “Petit arrangements avec les morts” , winner of the golden camera at the Cannes Film Festival.
For several years, Helene has worked with several French decorator teams on numerous films, as assistant set decorator, exterior stage manager and interior decorator, with film makers such as Matthieu Kassovitz, Dominique Farrugia, Gilles Lelouche, Olivier Doran and James Huth.
While working as set decorator, Helene’s passion for fashion photography, brought her to collaborate with Annie Leibowitz, Jean-Baptiste Mondino, Ruben Afanador, Corinne Day, Paolo Roversi, and Bettina Rains, under the direction of Jean-Hugues de Chatillon (production designer).
Helene’s love for Paris lead her to have the privilege to collaborate with Nora Ephron, Woody Allen, Steven Soderberg, Jean-marc Vallee, Clint Eastwood and Christopher Nolan.
In 2008, Helene was co-nominated to the Art Director Guild as set decorator, together with Bettina Von Den Steinen (production designer) for their collaboration on the French part of the movie “Julie&Julia” from Nora Ephron.
Helene, as set decorator, was a 2010 Academy Awards co-nominee with Anne Seibel (production designer) in the category of best art direction for ‘Midnight in Paris” from Woody Allen.
The same year, the movie “Café de Flore” from Jean-Marc Vallee, where Helene was set decorator of the French part, won the Juttras of Montreal, in the best art direction category with Patrice Vermette (production designer).
Helene now works as production designer in France and abroad where she uses her experience on a daily basis.
